We’re delighted to announce that the University of Suffolk Students’ Union and our LGBTQ+ Officer Lauren have both been shortlisted in the National Student Pride Awards this year.

The SU is in the running for Most Inclusive University or Students’ Union, while Lauren has been shortlisted in the Overcoming Adversity category.

SU President Katie said: “What an honour for our Students’ Union and our incredible LGBTQ+ Officer, Lauren, to be nominated for awards at the National Student Pride Awards!

“Lauren has been nominated for the Overcoming Adversity award and rightly so. Despite facing many challenges, she continues to excel in her role. She has helped the SU plan and run numerous events, dedicated countless hours to organising and attending Reclaim the Night, and is working with the LGBTQ+ Society to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month. We are extremely proud of Lauren and all she has achieved in her two years as a part-time officer.”

Katie added: “Our Students’ Union is also thrilled to be nominated for the Most Inclusive University or Students’ Union award. It means so much to us to receive this recognition, and we are incredibly proud that our students have made our SU an inclusive and safe environment for everyone. “

The awards will be presented this Friday evening, and some of our LGBTQ+ Society members and SU staff will be attending to see if we’re lucky enough to win! We love that our SU has created a sense of belonging for so many of our students. Pop down to the SU Social Space to see us anytime.
