Christian Union

Christian Union

The Christian Union is a group of diverse students from across the university, all with one thing in common- an interest in the bible. They all come from different backgrounds, some with strong faith and others just beginning. You don’t have to be sure in your faith to get involved, but just have curiosity to see what Christianity is all about.

The society strives to create a safe environment for Christians to meet together and grow, but also has a huge focus on outreach events. They believe in reaching out a hand to everyone, in many different ways.

The Christian Union meets weekly on Tuesday’s from 4:30-6pm in the Chaplaincy (located in the library building.) They begin with games and snacks and then take some time to explore scripture and pray together. It’s informal and welcoming and a chance for you to come and relax and connect with God.

The societies main goal is to reach as many students outside the weekly meetings as possible. They have given out cakes at freshers, arranged informal meals out, games afternoons and even weekends away, all of which have had great success and been enjoyable for the people involved.

If you’re interested, come along to a Tuesday meeting. Alternatively, you can follow and message the Facebook page “UoS Christian Union” or email any of the committee members. They will be happy to help you out or answer any questions.

Who are on committee?

Ruth Baker is the president of the Christian Union. She is studying Special Educational Needs and Disability studies. Ruth grew up in Africa and has over 100 stitches, and she is also very proud of her blue peter badge.

Emily Loaring is the vice president and is studying Radiography. She is a twin and loves crime dramas, she also thinks that she’s really bad at coming up with facts about herself.

Hannah King is the secretary and is studying English. She’s interested in anything arty, and formally took a year to do fine art before changing her degree, and one day hopes to be a book illustrator.

Emma Nichols is the treasurer and is studying adult nursing. When she was born she weighed less than a bag of sugar. (She’s a normal size now).
