About us

About us

At the University of Suffolk Students' Union, we’re all about making sure you get the most out of your time here at uni. We’re a student-led charity, and our goal is simple: give you the tools, support, and opportunities to shape your own experience.

Representing you, supporting you to run sports and societies, providing advice when you need it and events to help you relax, we’re here to help you balance hard work with a bit of fun. While the University provides most of our funding, we stay independent and always on your side. This is your SU - run by students, for students - and we’re excited to help you make the most of it.

Student Officers

You vote for your Student Officers each year, and they’re the ones campaigning, representing, and improving your university experience. Alongside them, you also elect Course Representatives who sit on Student Council along with reps from sports and societies, making sure officers stay accountable and everything runs smoothly.

Student Council is where students debate ideas, put forward motions, and make changes to campus life - big or small. Check out our latest Student Council information here

Trustee Board

Our Trustee Board oversees the big picture, making sure the SU is running legally and is financially secure. The board is made up of your two full-time SU Presidents, two student trustees, and five external trustees.

Policy & Governance

Policy at the SU is decided through Student Council motions. These outline what the SU will do to make life better at University—whether it’s tackling an issue or starting something new. Once passed, motions become our policy for three years (with the option to extend).

Our Bye-Laws explain how elections are run, how democracy works here, and what Officers should be doing day-to-day. It’s all designed to keep the SU running smoothly and transparently, for you.

Meet the Team

The SU staff are here to run the 'business as usual' side of the SU - supoorting sports & societies, running the advice service, ensuring the student voice is heard. They provide the consistent services you can benefit from, while your Officers focus on campaigning and representing you. Staff stay neutral in student politics, but they’ll always point you toward your elected Officers when needed.
