Part Time Officers

These elected officers carry out their roles whilst they are studying at the University of Suffolk. You'll also benefit from developing skills such as event management and public speaking, with support from the SU staff team and the sabbatical officers.

Available roles to run for in this election are:

  • BAME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Officer
  • Postgraduate Officer
  • Part-Time Students’ Officer
  • Student with Disabilities Officer

Liberation Officers

Liberation Officers are the voices of students within their Liberation groups, actively advocating for their perspectives, spearheading campaigns on pertinent issues, and coordinating events tailored to their needs. This involves a seat on both the Student Council and the Student Officer Committee.

LGBTQ+ Officer

  • Represents the interests of LGBTQ+ students and advocates on the issues they face at the University.
  • Engages with the University and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for LGBTQ+ students.
  • Regularly engages with LGBTQ+ students through appropriate channels.
  • Election is by self-defined constituency, and this officer is elected by ordinary members who self-define as LGBTQ+.

BAME Officer (Black and Minority Ethnic Officer)

  • Represents the interests of BAME students and advocates on the issues they face at the University.
  • Engages with the University and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for BAME students.
  • Regularly engages with BAME students through appropriate channels.
  • Election is by self-defined constituency, and this officer is elected by ordinary members who self-define as BAME.

Student with Disabilities Officer

  • Represents the interests of students with disabilities and advocates on the issues they face at the University.
  • Engages with the University and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for disabled students.
  • Regularly engages with disabled students through appropriate channels.
  • Election is by self-defined constituency, and this officer is elected by ordinary members who self-define as students with disabilities.

Widening Access Officers

Widening Access Officers are advocates for students in their Widening Access groups, leading campaigns and organizing events that address their unique needs. They also sit on the Student Council and the Student Officer Committee.

Part-Time Students’ Officer

  • Represents the interests of part-time students as a widening access group and advocates on the issues they face at the University.
  • Engages with the University and other relevant organisations to achieve improvements for part-time students.
  • Regularly engages with part-time students through appropriate channels.
  • Election is by self-defined constituency, and this officer is elected by ordinary members who self-define as part-time students.

School Officers

School Officers lead the academic concerns of students throughout their school, collaborating closely with course representatives to address broader issues. They participate in both the Student Council and the Student Officer Committee, and represent students’ academic interests at University-level committees such as Senate.

Postgraduate Officer

  • Represents the needs of postgraduate students, through campaigns or other means.
  • Sits on University and SU Boards, committees, and working groups relevant to their role.
  • Liaises with Student Representatives from postgraduate courses across the University.
  • Provides a link between postgraduate representatives and the Students’ Union.
  • Liaises with academic and support staff on issues affecting postgraduate students.
