Student Officer Elections 2026 — Candidate FAQs

What’s the biggest issue affecting students right now, and how would you work to fix it as SU President?

GRACE

Students’ biggest issue is unclear, impersonal communication from the university. Vital information buried in Minerva and mass emails is overwhelming and easy to miss. As SU President, I’d expand phone support, drop-ins and face-to-face dialogue so students feel heard, reduce anxiety, resolve issues faster, and rebuild trust across the institution.

KAT

Something I have both experienced myself, and noticed amongst other students is how common being stressed and unhappy is. Creating more awareness of issues that students may be facing that affect their overall wellbeing and ensuring that meaningful and helpful support is both available and accessible will be so important.

KATRYN

There’s a real lack of connection in our University at the moment. Students just stick to their groups, anxious to interact with others. I will do my best to plan events that bring different people together based on what they love doing, to help create friendships outside their courses.

ZOE

Worries about finances in a variety of different ways and to combat this I will ensure affordable events so all students can take part and enjoy their uni experience.

What’s one change you’d deliver this year that students would actually notice?

GRACE

One change I’d deliver this year is clearer, human communication. I’d introduce regular in-person drop-ins, improved phone support and simplified digital updates so important information is easy to find and act on. Students would feel heard, supported, and less overwhelmed with faster solutions to academic and wellbeing concerns alike.

KAT

I would consistently hold more events throughout the year, with a focus on making them free where I am able so that they are as accessible as possible to each student!

KATRYN

There’s a good amount of societies at the Uni, but not many people know about them. I want to better advertise them and put them out to students because they’re a great way to meet like-minded people, and relax from your studies, which we all need.

ZOE

Increase the student engagement with the students union and ensure that the main priority of the Students union is the students voice.

Why should a student who’s never voted in SU elections vote for you?

GRACE

If you’ve never voted in SU elections, I understand it can feel insignificant. But representation shapes your education experience. I’m focused on practical change: clearer communication, visible support, and ensuring no student feels ignored. I’m approachable, proactive, and committed to making education work for everyone. Your vote will matter.

KAT

I would recommend you vote for ANYONE as it will be a chance to see the SU improve in ways that align with what you would like to see. I think you should vote for me as I will listen to and provide a voice for every student.

KATRYN

You have the right to vote and make a change, and I’ve got ears to listen to you and help bring it to reality, so let’s make a good team together!

ZOE

Because ensuring the SU presidents are representative of the student voice will enhance every students uni experience.

Important one: what’s your favourite biscuit, and why is it the correct answer?

GRACE

Oreo’s are my favourite biscuit (especially peanut butter ones). They’re sweet and a little bit salty and are just the perfect snack!

KAT

I’m vegan so my access to the world of biscuits is sadly reduced. My answer pre-vegan would of course be the humble Jaffa Cake (not a cake!), but now I would go with a party ring as I love their colours, taste and texture!

KATRYN

Bourbon Creams! I’ve got a sweet tooth... Double chocolate? Yes please!

ZOE

Fox’s Viennese milk chocolate biscuits! The biscuit speaks for itself.
