Who are Grace and Zoe, and what will they be doing over the next year?

We asked our new SU Presidents a mix of questions about their roles, what they hope to achieve, and a few quick-fire questions so you can get to know the people behind the titles.

They're looking forward to representing students and making sure your voice is at the heart of everything we do at the University of Suffolk. Here's your chance to get to know them a little better.

What course did you study at UOS?
GRACE (PRESIDENT OF EDUCATION): Criminology at undergrad. Criminal law and justice at postgrad.
ZOE (PRESIDENT OF ACTIVITIES & WELLBEING): BSc Criminology and Sociology

What are you most looking forward to during your year as a Sabbatical Officer?
GRACE: I'm looking forward to having the opportunity to truly make student voices heard
ZOE: Making a difference around campus and showing students what the SU can add to their degree experience.

What do you think is the biggest issue students are facing right now?
GRACE: Delays across university departments, specifically in receiving grades.
ZOE: I think a lot of issues and stressors lead back to the cost-of-living crisis. Student loans aren't covering bills, and the knock-on effects that has on student wellbeing and studies is significant.

You had a very busy first week – what was the highlight?
GRACE: The strategy launch panel was a huge success. With brilliant engagement, conversation on the panel was flowing and student-run businesses provided delicious refreshments
ZOE: Attending the strategy launch and being able to see what is ahead for the SU over the next few years

What does your perfect Saturday look like?
GRACE: Sunshine and a pub garden!
ZOE: Lay-in then pancakes for breakfast. A productive but chill afternoon and a nice evening out at the cinema, dinner, drinks with friends.

Describe yourself in three words
GRACE: Compassionate, driven and empathetic
ZOE: Energetic, bubbly, determined

What's your go-to karaoke song?
GRACE: ‘She Moves in Her Own Way’ by The Kooks
ZOE: I am not a karaoke girl - but a good recommendation from someone very close to me is always Celine Dion - usually 'It's All Coming Back to Me Now'

What's your favourite meal?
GRACE: Mac and cheese
ZOE: I'm all about a girl dinner - chicken nuggets are high on the list

What's your current film/TV/book recommendation?
GRACE: Supernatural (tv show) and any Lisa Jewell book!
ZOE: Book - The Road Trip by Beth O'Leary; TV - Off Campus - a bit unoriginal but very good; Film - Any Harry Potter film
