As part of the SU Democracy Review recommendations, we have introduced Task & Finish Groups. These will give you the chance to tackle something that matters to students, following motions which have been approved by a Student Council meeting.

Our first Task & Finish Group (T&F Group) meetings will take place online on 19 and 20 November. Each group will work on its campaign and report back at the Annual Members' Meeting on 1 December.

If you've ever thought something at university needs to change, here's your chance to help make it happen.

TASK & FINISH GROUP FAQS

What is a Task & Finish Group?

It's a group of students working together to tackle an issue, lead a campaign and find practical solutions – with support from the Students' Union.

How do you decide what the topics are?

Once a motion is confirmed as policy at a Student Council meeting, the SU will create a Task & Finish Group, made up of any Ipswich student who’d like to work on a project about the policy. These groups are not just forums to chat about the issue; they have a start and end date and will plan to resolve the campaign issue.

What will I do?

This isn't just about sitting in a meeting and talking about problems. You'll have the opportunity to work with other students, develop campaign ideas, gather feedback, speak to relevant people and help find solutions that could make a difference.

You'll be supported by a Students' Union Officer and staff, so you won't be expected to organise everything yourself.

The groups will have a maximum of 10 student members and meet at least every 6 weeks. You’ll decide on how frequently to meet, and what tasks you’ll each do, and how you will report back to Student Council and the wider student community.

Why get involved?

  • Have a say and help influence change.
  • Work with other students to make things happen.
  • Develop skills in teamwork, communication, negotiation and problem-solving.
  • Get hands-on campaign, policy and project experience.

Who can take part?

Any Ipswich-based University of Suffolk student can join a T&F group. You don't need previous experience, and you don’t need to be a student officer or course rep (obvs you can be though!). You just need enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved with other students to really change things.
