What is an academic appeal?

Appeals are made by students seeking amendments, or reversal of a decision taken by the Board of Examiners in regards to the students’ performance academically.

 

I am dissatisfied with the marks I have received, can I still appeal?

Unfortunately, you cannot appeal on the grounds that you are dissatisfied with your results, nor appeal to obtain a higher award classification due to marginally missing the required mark.

 

How can the Students’ Union help me?

The Students’ Union aims to provide all students with confidential, impartial advice and support throughout your appeal process.

 

I have just received my unratified mark and am not happy, can I make an appeal?

Unfortunately, you can only appeal when your marks have been ratified by the Assessment Board.

 

Do I have a deadline to submit my appeal?

Yes, you have up until 15 working days of receiving your ratified mark to appeal.

 

Do I need to submit evidence?

Yes, all academic appeals are based on evidence which shows the impact on you of the circumstances outlined in your appeal.

 

Where can I find the appeal form?

There is a copy of the Academic Appeals Form on MySuffolk under the Student Information tab, as well as a copy of the Academic-Appeals-Procedure.pdf (uos.ac.uk)

 

Where do I hand in my appeal form to?

You need to send your Academic Appeal Form to the Office for Student Appeals, Complaints and Conduct (OSACC) osacc@uos.ac.uk, along with any supporting evidence and a statement to support your ground of appeal. Your forms can be handed in at the Student Centre. 

 

Can I still attend my lectures while my appeal is being processed?

In most situations you can continue to attend your lectures unless you are appealing against allegations of fitness to practice or you have been withdrawn from your course. 

 

I am due to take Re-sits and am still awaiting the outcome of my appeal, should I still revise?

It is strongly advised that you revise for your resit in case the outcome is not what you expected. 

 

How will I find out the outcome of my appeal?

You can normally expect to hear the outcome within 5 working days of the panel meeting by post.

 

I am unhappy with the outcome of my appeal, can I re-appeal?
