Here is what I will be working on this year:

1) More support in place for careers in Arts and Humanities

2) Reduce waste and cost as a university by submitting electronic copies of assignments

3) Reformation of democracy in the SU so that more students are eligible to vote for liberation officers, regardless of how they self-identify

Here is the manifesto that I won my election on:

Hello everyone, I’m Kay, a second year (BA) Hons English Student. I ran for the position of Arts and Humanities officer as I am passionate about making an active change at the Student Council by representing our department.

The key things I will fight to change are:

- Unity between Arts and Humanities

- Waste and Sustainability

- Democracy

A key problem facing us is a lack of unity between Arts and Humanities. I aim to increase unity and communication between faculties by attending regular meetings to tackle important issues. I also propose that collaborative events and workshops should be held where all departments can contribute together so that there is greater creative unity between departments. There should be more student run creative workshops that allow students to showcase their talents and enhance their university experience. By strengthening the unity between departments, we will be able to fight on issues together so that our voices are heard on important issues that directly affect us. In addition, I also believe that there should be more support in place for careers in Arts and Humanities, this could easily be achieved by inviting more businesses to the careers fair so that students are more aware of the opportunities available to them.

Another key problem facing us is waste and sustainability, I will fight for greater sustainability in the Arts and Humanities department by campaigning towards a greener department. I propose that all departments stick to electronic copies of assignments, where possible, to save money, trees, and carbon emissions.  Lecturers and students, are given access to all the technology they need so paper copies of assignments seem redundant and can easily be lowered to reduce the waste we produce as a university. I also propose that there are more bins on the grounds of the university, to lower waste and to further our recycling.
